Beginner Sourdough Bread Receipe

Rye’s and Shine Sourdough

Overview

Perfecting a sourdough loaf can take time and we encourage experimentation. This is an easy and great receipe idea for any beginner’s first loaf.

Directions

Step 1: Autolyse Combine 2 ¼ cups unbleached white bread flour, 1 cup warm water, 1/4 to 1/3 cup bubbly Rye's and Shine Sourdough Starter and 1-2 tsp salt. Mix in bowl.

Step 2: Knead Knead until stretchy (between 5-15 minutes). Perform the "window pane" test. This is where you hold up a piece of your dough and gently stretch and pull it apart. If the dough is able to strech thinly enough that it becomes translucent, then it is ready.

Step 3: Rise Place in bowl, cover with plastic wrap and allow 3 hours to rise

Step 4: Shape Remove from bowl. Shape the dough into a round ball, dust heavily with flour and place into a bowl lined with a tea towel. A banneton works great as well if you have one. Cover with plastic wrap and allow to rise for 3 hours, or 12 hours (overnight) in the fridge

Step 5: Bake Preheat oven to 450 Fahrenheit. Gently place dough in a covered pot (dutch ovens work great) and bake with lid on for 30 mins. Remove lid and bake for 8 mins, or until crust is golden brown.

Step 6: Eat Allow bread to cool and enjoy!
